Baby nail care

Newborns have fingernails that are usually soft and flexible but that can cause injuries to the infant. Newborn infants do not yet have control of arm, hand, and finger movements and may inadvertently claw at their face. Nails that are ragged or extend beyond the tip of the finger can cause scratches to the face and possibly eyes.

Newborn infants should receive appropriate nail care. Clean the baby's hands and nails during regular bathing. Nails should be carefully trimmed with baby nail scissors, that have blunt rounded tips. (Do NOT use nail clippers--you may clip the tip of the baby's finger instead of the nail!). Use an emery board to keep the nails smooth to prevent injuries. Since baby's nails grow pretty quickly, you may have to cut them once a week.
That would suck.

Thinking of getting pregnant soon?

I'd be mad at my parents. "Yeah, I'm missing the tip of this finger because my parents clipped my nails with a nail clipper when I was a baby."

Now I'm trying to decide which is worse...

Meconium aspiration
Meconium is the first feces (stool) of the newborn. It is thick, sticky, and greenish-black in color and may be seen in the amniotic fluid after 34 weeks gestation. Aspiration occurs when the newborn inhales the meconium mixed with amniotic fluid either in the uterus or just after delivery.

Well, when you breathe shit you die.
The condition is serious: meconium aspiration is a leading cause of severe illness and death in the newborn.

Doesn't seem like they have much of a choice at that point though.
