I have a lot of results to convey. I do so using Powerpoint in a very ordinary style.

Lots of people hate Powerpoint. I'm wondering what exactly is the alternative?

For stuff with a limited audience, I go for spreadsheets since they won't need too much handholding.

For things that will be passed around and viewed offline, I think I may need to go to powerpoint presentations with extensive notes sections (full sentences, not bullet points) and charts and data in the slides. I see many examples of this style, to varying degrees, in my office already.

What's your take?

I haven't had to do any presentation forever so I don't know, hehe. Done a few demos but those are more hands on.

I guess it depends on the type of data you are trying to convey. Since most of my stuff is "mechanical design" having images and videos or whatever showing the thing is way more useful than a bunch of text. But even when it's a bunch of numbers, or charts, I still prefer power point to excel, since most people have crappy vision, and having a wall of numbers with an oasis of pie doesn't seem clean enough to present. Most formal reviews I've been in are in ppt with word appendixi containing images and excel charts.
