720p vs 1080p

Is there any reason why I should consider 1080p TV? It looks like the only thing that support 1080p is PS3 which I don't plan on buying and PC which I won't be playing PC games at 1080p.
Tell me what I am missing?

If you want to use your tv as a computer monitor in general, not just for pc games, I'd recommend getting 1080. 720 always feels really squished when trying to do any web browsing or other typical computer use.

oh yeah, I forgot to mention that. No, I don't plan on using it as monitor. I will use it when I have something to display for multiple people, otherwise I have a monitor that I will be using for PC.

It probably doesn't matter to you.
Of course, all other factors held equal, 1080p is always "better" than 720p because it has more resolution. However, if you won't be driving it with a source greater than 720p (computer, blu-ray, 1080p HDTV signal, etc), save the cash and get a 720p.
If you're an "elitist" though, it's 1080p or bust.

Well, in ten years my prediction is that no one will use 1080i at all, and probably not 720p either.
Of course, I am not in the market for an HDTV right now.

Several over the air channels in this area broadcast in 1080i. Presumeably the cable versions do the same.

You should get a Blue-ray + HDdvd combo player for 1k. Because that makes sense.

What about upscaling factor? If the source is 720p wouldn't a 720p TV works better?

If interpolation is involved, and better = no interpolation, you're correct. It really does depend on the source.

What's the freaking difference and does it matter that one is 4000:1 contrast and the other is 5000:1, can people even tell?

Summary/Opinion:
Figure out how many devices you want to hook up simultaneously and their interfaces. If the
LNS4041D suffices, get that (cheapest). Otherwise get the
LNS4092D (most expensive).
Details:
At a glance, the big differences are:
- Connections
* Depends on how many devices you plan on simultaneously attaching to the display.
* The LNS4041D & LNS4051D have the same connections (2 composite A/V (1 side), 2 S-Video (1 side), 1 component (Y/Pb/Pr), 2 HDMI, 2 RF, 1 USB, 1 RS232).
* The LNS4092D has more (4 composite, 2 S-video, 2 component, 2 HDMI, 1 PC RGB, 2 RF), but lacks USB (whatever that's used for).
- Viewing angle
* If you plan on having a lot of people viewing it, I'd go with one of the 178 degree panels (LNS4041D & LNS4092D)
- Price
* Of course
As for constrast, unless it's really low (think sub 2000 for a video-only display), it's not very useful without a black level. For example, a 100000:1 contrast ratio with a high black level is "worse" than a 3000:1 constrast ratio with a lower black level.
Subjectively, a low black level is of utmost importance. Furthermore, it's easy for even computer LCDs to get too bright, which washes out colors, wasting the benefit of any additional contrast. Conversely, the lower the black level, the more important contrast becomes. For reference, I run my LCD at the lowest brightness setting.

Why not just spend 4k on an uber projector and get yourself a nice 200" wall?
its nice have a 4 way split screen where each screen in 50" hehe

This is even more important since, you'll be watching from the desk or table on occasion.
