out of warranty repair

Post by Jonathan »

Amber's laptop won't turn on anymore. I bought a new AC adapter because the old one was a bit frayed, and a new battery because the old one was dead. Still won't turn on. I popped open the case, but the power stuff is all below the system tray. I'll be damned if I'm going to unscrew all that crap just to look at it and not be able to fix it.

Dell's site refers to the existence of out of warranty repair, but doesn't mention how exactly one is to obtain such an item. They do say that they'll charge me $49 for a support phone call, which doesn't solve my problem since my problem can't be solved over the phone.

Has anyone dealt with this kind of issue? I'm looking for either Dell's magic out of warranty repair request form, or maybe a recommendation for a third party technician, or pointer to the "fix your laptop yourself" website. It's an Inspiron 300m.

Step 3 might be of some use...

Or, you can become a Warranty Parts Direct Certified Technician and be able to order parts direct as well as bypass the annoying remedial troubleshooting dolts.

Anyways, try a variant of this search if those didn't help at all :P

Mobile Hotline, including Out of Warranty Repairs: 800-822-8965

Both are Dell-only numbers.
