But it's not like I'm ever going to post anything to my blog anyway. We all see how my Livejournal went.

Wait, so you're, like, actually good at guitar and stuff? Neat! I bought a drum set on Thursday, because I needed to play it in the pep band at a Friday basketball game. 24 hours to learn to play set. It actually turned out just fine, with great improvement over the course of the game.

I've always wanted to play drums. I don't think I have very good rhythm though, even when playing with a metronome. You can probably tell in that recording. I could re-record the guitar track (or even just the intro) but I'm too lazy to. And now I'm too busy "studying".

Learning guitar isn't too hard after 10+ years of violin.

How did you record it? Did you lay down both tracks simultaneously or separately?

Also, someone once told me that you almost never want to mix you're own music. Supposedly because you're never a good self critic. I have no idea if that has any merit, but I'm putting it out there anyway.

I recorded 3 tracks. One for guitar, and two voice tracks. I did bass boost for one voice track and treble boost for the other. Doing that helps mask the fact that I can't really sing.

Yeah I think that person's right. I pretty much said screw it, good enough and voila, finished product. But who else is going to mix my stuff for me? I just record in my spare time for fun anyway.

Plus I still don't really know how to use half of the features yet.

Are you using software to mix it? If the software is free or cheap, I wouldn't mind taking a crack at mixing it. I used to know what I was doing in high school, but that was so so so very very very long ago.

I use Garageband. It came with my computer but is part of the iLife software suite.

I'm getting the Nova mic slightly used for $13 this weekend. But then I need a mixer. I've been looking at the Alesis MultiMix 8 Firewire, which gives me 8 recording channels (4 mic + 2 stereo line), all sent to the computer individually (the USB version only sends the master stereo mix out). It seems to be the best deal with lots of inputs. It also provides phantom power.

How's GarageBand working for you with multitrack? Is there anything I should be aware of before I spend several hundred dollars on the mixer?

Works fine for me. I don't record more than one track at once, so I don't know how it'll handle actual multitrack recording. And I don't have any stereo inputs either. For what I do have Garageband suits my needs.
