I finally realized that a good reason for posting links in the Links forum is so the unread posts display tells me at a glance whether there is a new discussion going on.
From now on post links directly to the links forum.

As a direct result of all the links being in Links, I can now hack together this little page:
http://www.jonathan.pearce.name/mohtalim/links2.php
This one shows all links, regardless of topic, in reverse chronological order. Expect more to follow. I'm thinking RSS feed. I'll fix some of the formatting and language as I get bored.

Another benefit: you can now generate a new topic for each link you post. Or not. Comments can then be attached directly to the link, instead of three or four posts down. If you don't like the threaded view, just go straight to the links page for a flat view with the newest links on the top.
