Bourne Supremacy

Post by VLSmooth »

Dad's Verdict: Too Jittery (camera work)
Sister's Verdict: Too jerky (camera work), first was better
My Verdict: Good, nice pacing, made sense, plausible, albeit very circumstantial with a one major deus ex machina.

I didn't think it was as good as the first. I certainly wouldn't call it plausible (though the first wasn't either). The camera movement during the fight scenes was excesive; I think it was to cover mediocre fight choreography, but I couldn't see clearly enough to be sure.

It did make me want to drive a manual as much as the first one did. But then, most movies with a decent car chase and manual transmissions do.

I agree with George that it wasn't as good as the first. The jittery camera work was really annoying after a while. The plot was so cold war'ish that it didn't really seem to apply to modern day so much. 10 years ago and it would've been better.

OMG WTF! Why watch the second without watching the first?! It makes even less sense without the first.

BBQ?

Haha, well, I was kinda dragged to see the second (like how I was dragged to see the 2nd Harry Potter movie (still haven't seen the first)).

As for making sense, is it really that difficult? (they dropped lots of hints)

Bourne = "Escaped" CIA agent that specialized in killing agents (black-on-black). The best of the best in a group (Treadhome?) that was run by a corrupt leader. Their experiences caused many psychological ailments, one of which is amnesia that Bourne possesses. Only thing I found really confusing was how he had a hot chick, but that could be solved by googling, if I was so inclined.

  • Umm, he did political hit or whatever hits were needed to look like anything but hits. Killing other ops seemed to only happen when the CIA sent people to kill him.
    it was treadstone, not treadhome
hot chick explained in first movie.

No, the amnesia is because he got shot. In the back. By Adebisi from Oz. Then he decided he didn't want to be a ninja-assassin anymore, he wanted to fuck Lola from Run, Lola, Run. Can't say I blame him. Then Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman's nemesis tried to have him killed but wound up dying, and Matt Damon ran away. Is that perfectly clear?

You basically have the view that the CIA does in the movie, not the actual facts.

I think it would've been amusing if Dr. Quinn and the garden gnome did cameos...

Italian job > Bourne Identity.

This movie (the second one) definately had less screen time for the attractive actresses. Another mark against it.

Technically, retrograde amnesia (forgetting your past) is psychological in nature, and can occur due to trauma, both physical and emotional. So Vinny is not necessarily wrong in saying that his amnesia may have been due to psychological factors on top of the trauma from getting shot in the back.

If he had anterograde amnesia (Memento-style) it would be a different story - that's caused by damage to brain cells which would only happen from physical trauma, perhaps loss of circulation to the medial temporal or orbitofrontal areas.

Alzheimer's and regular dementia is also caused by brain cells dying, but in larger, less concentrated brain areas.

Anyway i saw the movie, thought it was alright. Lack of Franka Potente makes Alan a sad panda.
