Re: Mafia Wars on Facebook
Ok, I got bored and started playing mafia wars on facebook. The annoying thing about this game is that I can't get a bunch of stuff without having 5 other people be part of my mafia. If you sign up for the game you get your own mafia and people you know can be in it and you can be in theirs. This g...

I think how you'd want it is: for each frame, record the time it took to render it. From this, you can calculate the CDF by inverting the numbers (x := 1/x), then sort them. I guess ideally you would play the entire game this way to get an idea of the big picture. It wouldn't create too much data, a...

Got 62 on rottentomatoes.com and 55 on metacritic.com. Is it really that good? It'll be sad if I have to stop trusting metacritic. A movie that everybody kind of likes is not necessarily a good movie. Similarly, a movie that some people hate but other people love is loved by some people, and I migh...

Longest word sounds contrived. Amazon uses something called statistically improbable phrases . I don't know what their algorithm is (it's apparently proprietary), but language log has analyzed it and doesn't like it much. Do you not have any sort of timestamp on these entries? Maybe you could go bac...

To a certain extent, yes, it is true. I never crashed X while playing games, though. Nor have I locked up my box. I certainly have never caused a kernel panic under Linux. Just playing video causes the graphics card on my machine to freeze up regularly on this new machine I got and rarely on my lap...

Officially, it's "MP3sHits.com". It's a bunch of links to MP3s, nothing noteworthy - probably shouldn't visit at work. I just liked the name.

The ship was in the desert because the Sahara was a vast river 100 years ago. Duh. Actually, the Sahara has been a desert for 4500 years . Oh, wait, sarcasm. Well, it hasn't been a desert forever, anyway. In the board game "Settlers of the Stone Age" (by the creator of Settlers of Catan), you begin...

Free Software Games Debian sarge comes with a large selection of what I consider classic Unix-style games: great time-wasters like ... GFingerPoken ... I can't believe people still package that game. I never really finished it. Which reminds me that I've been sitting on an unfinished game for a few...
