Hey - we're off... from last time

End of Session from last time:

  • new and important about the world - no
  • notable monster - yes
  • notable loot - yes

Trekking to the village Al Quock Mole Al Quish Mae

  • Everyone searches the village for necessary supplies for this trek, as we know we must move quickly.
  • Nagash as Scout - no surprises
  • Gog Mog as quartermaster - we eat as normal
  • Gjemb as trailblazer - we wander a bit
  • Nagash hears screaming as he approaches the village
    • he causes the sound of ice collapsing - CRACK!
      • "dogs" became a unit of forest activity in the underbrush
      • "winged dogs" is the unit for activity in the branches
    • Birch runs to the sound, Uriel readies and arrow of light, Gog Mog trudges determinedly toward the sound and Gjemb calls to them to avoid the area as there is danger (we must get to the village and not be distracted)
    • Nagash summons a column of ice and is raised into the canopy
    • red wolves with giant maws rush out of the undergrowth Dump
  • the wolves rush toward the group into a mighty clash, with Nagash on ice in the canopy
  • Birch is shocked at the naked wolves and grows an acorn into a tree quickly
    • he grasps its trunk and is born upward beyond the canopy and into the sunlight
  • Gog Mog spies a branch to use for bashing
  • Gjemb believes the monochrome nature of the beasts means they are constructs
    • Gjemb calls to the forest that these are as the human machines and should be destroyed - he moves to engage the automatons
  • Nagash melts the pillar and returns to the forest floor - lands prone
  • Gog Mog grabs the branch and lays about him into the pack of automatons, yet is still surrounded
  • Around Gog Mog, the automatons grow roots and lose mobility, as well as Gog Mog (courtesy of Birch)
  • Gjemb encourages Uriel to help herd them together
  • Uriel looses an arrow into the pack (WTF is "circling around" to "herd them"?)
  • While bashing the beasts into the ground, they still gnash at his legs
  • Birch speaks "tree" and Gog Mog grows barkskin armor (+2 armor)
  • As Nagash rushes back to the battle, his sword glows blue and begins leeching heat from all near it
    • sword and swordhand are encased in ice
  • Gjemb observes these machines are being smacked around and not dying, so he reaches into his pouch, draws forth some of the Wildness of the Land and paints his face, inside and out
    • he lands maddened on one, rending its body and knocking it prone, gouging its "flesh"
  • However, Gog Mog is bitten horribly and hamstrung
  • Seeing this, Uriel carefully takes aim and strikes his target between the eyes with another arrow of light
    • the "beast" collapses and turns to blood, flowing out into nothing
  • Speaking of stone, Birch attempts to petrify the jaws of these things
    • the beasts are only affected to move at the speed of gargoyles
    • "gargoyle" is a unit of speed now
  • Gjemb digs his claws in and attempts to forward flip and throw it into the next
    • the thing liquifies and Gjemb stumbles into his target, teeth raking him
  • the Mote following Uriel disappeared briefly, depriving him of arrows, as he moved closer into combat
  • Nagash reaches the fringes of battle, spears of ice flying from his hand
    • flesh automatons are pierced horribly
  • Birch calls upon the trees to lose their branches ("Bombs Away")
    • the trees don't fully understand, the branches fall lining the battlefield, not upon the things
  • Gog Mog begins to grab and fling the beast-things around him, as far as he can
    • but they mangle his wrists as this happens (again)
  • Gjemb tears out the throat of the one near him, and discovers breathing it does not do
  • Uriel sings a sweet song, asking his light to come out of his lute
    • the little light flies over to Gog Mog and guards his ankles
  • grabbing yet another, Gog Mog tosses it to the side, footless
  • Uriel notices the thrown things are hobbling back on their stumps, maws gnashing
  • Nagash approaches from the hindquarters, casting a black spell
    • piercing two with ice
  • Uriel misses the immobile creature just before him
  • a pool of blood appears beneath Gjemb, as he lands upon the beast-automaton, claws rending
  • pulling forth his bow, Birch releases a volley of arrows at the blood-beast menacing Gog Mog
    • piercing the beast in the back
  • Gog Mog grabs one and thrashes another with it, knocking off its front legs
    • yet it does not howl or react, other than to seek to bite and claw
  • Nagash stabbed one, and it stiffened with cold
    • yet he has one sneaking up on him from off the field
  • Uriel notices, and fires upon it, yet it does not seem to notice
    • he is not in an optimally safe area (bodies getting flopped around and all)
  • As Gog Mog raises the body of one of the beasts, Birch shoots it with an arrow... THUNK!
  • Nagash smashes a tree with an ice spear, and is tasted by a beast
    • but they can't taste, so it's meaningless, except for the deep deep teeth marks
  • Gjemb raises his head, covered in blood to his elbows and knees, looks about and leaps at another, tearing at its eyes
    • Gjemb's eyes are red, making his iris orange
  • Birch was feeling confident with the bow, and so he shot again
    • he missed
  • Gjemb, while raking the eyes of one, is attacked by another
    • he leaps upon its face, ripping off its jaw
  • Nagash's dude has stiffened
    • he speaks the power word: stun towards those around Gjemb
    • all are stunned, as is Gjemb
  • Uriel sees his opportunity and arrows a stunned beast
  • Birch decides to take his "wand of joy" and go home... first he finishes sliding down the tree
  • Gog Mog strikes... and there is murder
  • Nagash, noticing the stiffened dude is unfreezing, decides it is time to leave... and does so
  • Uriel summons a bright flash of light
    • yet the automatons seem only briefly blinded
  • Birch joins Nagash, running towards the village
    • the screams have gone silent
  • Uriel continues to pepper the stunned beast-things with arrows
  • Gog Mog struggles with the remaining machine near him
    • he heedlessly swings his club at the one around his leg, smashing it into a spray of blood
    • he also hits the ground - the club shatters upon it
  • Uriel, having been hiding behind the giant, quickly backs away...
    • while summoning his mote of light, which requires some time to convince to return and help
  • Gog Mog makes plans, while rooted, to tear apart the next one that get near it
      • start at the village
  • Uriel's light finally agrees to help, and is shot at the automaton beast machine
  • Gjemb starts to rouse, realizes the beasts aren't dead and attempts to slaughter one as rabbit
    • it dies, but the other bites as his leg, striking his nerve
  • Gog Mog finds a pole amongst his gear, and uses it to strike at a distance
    • the pole shatters but spears the thing
  • Gjemb rolls away from the automaton fiend, getting to his feet
  • Uriel uses his light to murder the last mobile auto-blood-fiend
    • Gjemb is pleased
  • Gjemb inspects Gog Mog's "rooting" - discovers that the spell is weaking
    • Uriel hears this and shoots quickly... too quickly
  • Gjemb informs Gog Mog that he'll be find, patting his knee, and explains he's got to go kill the remaining automatons
    • Gog Mog grabs Gjemb by the head as he walks away, but the claws swat away his hand
    • yet Gjemb is bowled over by the now free auto-fiend
  • Uriel pulls forth an arrow of light and yells "Close your eyes!
    • Gjemb does so, while Gog Mog does not... the auto-fiend bites Gjemb, but just slightly
    • with the arrow ready for stabbing, Uriel approaches the non-beast
  • Gjemb pushes upward on the auto-fiend and calls to Gog Mog to grab the thing
    • Gog Mog does, crushing it and drenching Gjemb in blood
  • Gjemb and Uriel briefly discuss the nature of these horrors, and quickly realize neither knows anything of them
  • they hurry to the village, to see what has happened

At the village Al Quock Mole Al Qish Mae

  • Nagash and Birch continue running towards the village
    • they arrive and there is devastation... Singer guts everywhere
    • Nagash uses his arcane senses and has a brief glimpse of a man, disemboweled and throat torn out, on a singularly yellow rise... it is for but an instant
  • Nagash goes house to house
  • Birch searches about, discovering that a larger horde of these automaton hounds attacked

'Info: this village forms the trees into suitable housing, while the trees yet live

    • the village did mount a defense, but it was overrun
    • seems the bloodhounds headed straight north
  • Nagash finds survivors in the trees, and informs Birch
  • Birch asks what has happened and why won't they come down (they could return at any time! they were just here! a score and two thirds of them!)
  • Nagash walks the perimeter of the village, inspecting unsuccessfully
  • some of the up-in-the-tree singers notice that Birch has the voice of the grave
    • and is with a dead man
  • so they shout for him to stay away... he points his Joy Wand at them
    • "all will be joyful when they see my joy wand!"
    • except Birch learns that the "joy wand" has a will of its own... and really wants Birch to perform for it
      • perform a wedding ceremony, that is
    • and, upon the joy being released from Birch's wand, the singers break out into song
  • Nagash waits for the singers to figure out what is going on (and stop singing)
  • Birch seeks a path of entrails... he doesn't find one
    • so he heads north
    • Nagash halts Birch, waiting for the others

All at the Village

  • all are confused as to the singing, Gjemb asks Birch why they are singing of the joys of love
    • because he needed to alleviate their sorrow, using his wand

INFO: "howdy howdy" is the official greeting of the singers of Birch's people

  • Uriel seeks healing from the singers for Gog Mog

INFO: "the place in the cleft of two hills where the trees go thick" is the translation of the name of Birch's village

  • Birch explains what's happened, and that Uriel is probably a race-traitor
    • Gjemb follows the lead of Birch, as these are his people
  • One of the elders, council of three, called Grim introduces himself to Birch, and seems to know his real name

INFO: Birch's name is nothing but skintone and penis jokes

    • they discuss the events, and the horrors of these two slaughters
  • Uriel meets hopeful, while pleading for medical aid
    • they provide a poultice to the "friend of the mammoth" - which he uses
    • and Gjemb is directed to the spring (by a "very hopeful" dude)
      • the dude wants us to leave quickly with the human, mammoth-man and stone-man
      • Gjemb and he converse about leaving quickly

INFO: actually, Birch's name is Yoruba for "i'd prefer a non-smoking room"

      • this hopeful dude will consult with Grim and the other council member Wary on travel rations
  • Gjemb communes with the land, painting himself with the colors of the spring and the angles of the earth
  • Uriel gains the tag blonde
  • Without Gjemb, the conversation with the elders continues, requesting that the singers remain and the rest leave immediately
    • "the blonde one is really bad at navigation, he probably can't get here again"
    • the elders seem to approve of the stone-man, and request Birch and Gjemb remain with him
  • meanwhile, Gog Mog begins eating trees... he stops at three
  • Nagash is struck intensely by the memory of hearing the True Tongue for days on end... he has lived before with Singers
    • Nagash remembers being alive, and arguing with singers. Not angrily, but thoroughly, over the course of months. He remembers their long discussions amongst themselves in the True Tongue. He remembers straining to tease meaning from their private talks, night after night, as he tried to convince them his way was the only way. Eventually, he went north with a singer he had taken to calling Shade. Nagash remembers where he last saw Shade.
  • Wary and Hopeful overrule Grim, and we are allowed to leave

End of Session
