Wheee, hard drive plus a gigabit of flash = faster hard drive than can use less power because it doesn't need to keep spinning so much. Data centers already sorta do this, except not on a per hard drive basis. Now we can all share the benefits. I wonder if they're still buffering the flash memory with a few MB of SRAM or maybe less.

POL: The Vana'diel Adventurer Recruitment Program ( Link )
Wow, voluntary level cap to party with friends:
Randomness: I'm guessing the sidekick feature from City of Heroes would be too easily abused.
Wow, voluntary level cap to party with friends:
To bad the higher level does get any special bonus, although being able to party regardless of level is pretty damn cool.Guide Beret and Sprout Beret
These are special hats that operate as a pair. When two adventurers equip these hats and form a party, the level of the character with the Guide Beret is restricted to the level of the character with the Sprout Beret, thus allowing them to enjoy adventuring and leveling together.
*The level restriction effect of the Guide Beret will only activate when the job level of the character with the corresponding Sprout Beret equipped is under level 50.
*Players who are under the level restriction effect of the guide beret cannot gain EXP.
Randomness: I'm guessing the sidekick feature from City of Heroes would be too easily abused.

Slashdot: Wal-Mart Parody Site Censored by DMCA ( Article | Current Site )
Posted by Zonk on Thursday April 28, @10:29AM
from the always-low-opinion dept.
davidwr writes "Wal-Mart used the Digital Millenium Copyright Act to temporarily shut down a university student's parody of the Wal-Mart Foundation." The story's details are also available via BusinessWeek. From the article: "Papasian launched the Web site April 16 for an art class at Carnegie Mellon University called 'Parasitic Media.' The class teaches students about the political uses of satire in the media. He acknowledged using Wal-Mart's graphics on his Web site but said he believed he could use the images as part of a parody."

Top reason not to drink flaming shots ( LJ Source w/Animated Gif )
Won't direct link the animated gif since it's possibly easy to trace from the vt.edu source. (tried to upload to imageshack, but it's >1 mb)

Hey, Arkansas made the news. Apparently, there are (nearly) extinct woodpeckers hiding out there.

I guess that I have to believe in global warming if the rate at which it is happening can be calculated. Everyone get out your 1W lightbulbs!Dwindlehop wrote:http://salon.com/news/feature/2005/02/0 ... ndex1.html
First paragraph on this page has a couple pointers to interesting articles on Social Security. Random thought: how many people believe both the dire warnings about global warming and the dire warnings about Social Security?
I forgot the link :-/ http://www.iht.com/articles/2005/04/29/news/fusion.php
