I'm not sure I want the first commercialization of space to be resorts and gambling... It seems to cheapen the whole space race thing...Feeney also announced Thursday that the team had secured sponsorship from GoldenPalace.com, the world's largest online gambling site. The head of GoldenPalace.com, Richard Rowe, said the sponsorship could lead to sending gamblers into space.
"As this technology progresses, we want to set up junkets so players can enjoy our games from high above the Earth," Rowe said in a statement. Feeney will carry a laptop during the flight "in order for his team to enjoy the GoldenPalace.com casino games on their trip to sub-orbital space," he said.
Two years ago at the UEFA Cup Final, a guy went on the field in a referee uniform, red carded the ref, then tore off his uniform and ran around naked. I think he had GoldenPalace.com painted on his back.quantus wrote:http://www.technewsworld.com/story/35620.html

Edit: Yep: Not work safe
I guess it was last year. But 2 UEFA Cups ago.

These guys look to be setting themselves up as the ValueJet of space tourism. Really, would you want to go into space in a vehicle that cost less than your car?

Ummm, that's at cost for the parts of the space ship... if you considered the cost that car makers get the parts for your car, I'm sure it would be way less than that rocket.George wrote:http://www.cnn.com/2004/TECH/space/08/0 ... index.html

Hah, pop-up blockers can't use pop-up ads to sell their software. About time the FTC did something about the people trying to make the problem worse for personal gain.

e-mail sent during 10am-2pm on weekends is 10% more likely to get filtered as spam. Filters should NOT look at the time stamp to determine if a message is spam or not.

Well, if you want to get technical, remember that this was a hand assembled prototype. If they were to mass produce these, the cost would likely come down. And my car cost less than $20,000 anyway. I was just making a point that even though the XPrize is trying to develop cheap alternative space vehicles, adequate safety systems and proper build quality for what is basically a high explosive with people strapped on top will (and should) cost more than most individuals can afford. Do you really want your neighbors setting up a launch pad in their backyard?quantus wrote:Ummm, that's at cost for the parts of the space ship... if you considered the cost that car makers get the parts for your car, I'm sure it would be way less than that rocket.

Use C/C++ libraries in higher level languages (Perl, Scheme, Python, OCaml, etc.). Where have you been all my life?

It's only a matter of time now 'til automagically is added to the English language.Glue code generation, compilation, and dynamic linking are all handled automagically.
