Lutris vs PlayOnLinux

PlayOnLinux is a graphical front-end for the Wine software compatibility layer which allows Linux users to install Windows-based video games, Microsoft Office (2000 to 2010), Microsoft Internet Explorer, as well as many other applications such as Apple iTunes and Safari.

Lutris is a FOSS (free and open source) game manager for Linux-based operating systems. Lutris has one-click installation available for hundreds of games on its website, and also integrates with the Steam website.

They do essentially the same thing, as far as I can tell. They'll create a custom wine prefix with some known good settings and try to get the game installed with whatever workarounds the last user to update the manager came up with. Each is only as good as the community engagement. I'm finding that the center of mass has shifted to Lutris in 2018.
