You know, I always thought that was, you know, sort of a myth. But, no, chainmail bikini. (NSFW)

It takes 43 muscles to frown and 17 to smile, but it doesn't take any to just sit there with a dumb look on your face.

When a guy makes first posts, that's not cool. When a guy gives himself the handle "1stman", dedicates his life to making first posts, and creates a website about himself, well, that's still not cool, but it sure is funny.

Netflix inspires a host of similar subscription-based rental companies. Now, if they'll just go digital...

there was an article somewhere about how boardband is probably not going to catch up for a while since it probably take the same amount of time to download the movie compare to mailing it.

probably on register

Another little surprising source of free (as in speech) books. Has a book from '92 by Niven and Pournelle which I haven't read yet. This qualifies it as good enough to be linked to.
I recognize a series George used to read there. The Honor series by David Weber. Wonder if it's any good.

I'm just disinclined to read books on computer screens anymore. Hurts my eyes.

Though using stuff like MS Reader helps. Maybe I'll read that Niven one sometime.

I don't actually recommend Fallen Angels, the Niven book, unless you're a huge Niven fan. It's very much like Footfall: it's a cultural artifact of the 80s (or early 90s in this case) as well as a meta-fiction. It's science fiction about science fiction authors and fans, dealing with issues they felt important in the 80s. Some of the same characters are present in both books, although the universes are completely different.

If you want to read Niven, go get Ringworld and The Mote in God's Eye. If you have already read those, get Ringworld Engineers or The Gripping Hand. All these books have more timelessness than Fallen Angels or Footfall and much more compelling universes.
