Dyson DC17 and DC23

Dumping the quick vacuum research I did for my sister.

This was prompted by:

Hope this helps,

Analysis:
  • Both
    • Incredible, sometimes too strong, suction (beware of expensive rugs)
    • These are great discounts, but still expensive vacuums overall
    • Qualitative noise complaints exist (i.e. take with a grain of salt)
  • DC17 All Floors
    • Upright
    • Potential Known-issue on models manufactured before 2009 (link)
    • Can call Dyson for free replacement parts immediately
    • Skim the rest of the thread for more details
  • DC23 Motorhead
    • Canister
    • The head has on or off modes, it does NOT have a turbinehead
      • On = motorized brush head, arguably too strong
      • Turbinehead = free spinning brush powered by suction only
      • Off = no spinning brush, just suction, good for hard floor
