Yay?The Xeon X55xx series simply crushes the competition and reduces the older Xeons to expensive space heaters, with the exception of the rendering and dense matrix HPC market.

Hot!
I mean cool.
Now, where are the nehalem netbooks!?! (or SULV or something that Samsung leaked) Chances are, they're different, so yeah, nehalem netbooks where?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Consumer_Ultra-Low_Voltage - Not a netbook. Netbook implies cheap -> small die -> Atom. CULV is mid-priced and meant to differentiate from the current thin-and-light ULV parts which are crazy expensive.VLSmooth wrote:Now, where are the nehalem netbooks!?! I claim no special insight into Intel's roadmaps. That said, I suspect you want the Havendale line which launches in 2010. Perhaps there will be CULV Lynnfield parts, but I doubt it.

Re: It's feeling a little
I just today learned a new thing!
Intel is planning on keeping the i3, i5, and i7 brands around. There won't ever be i9 or i6 or anything else. When we launch a new high end desktop chip when Sandy Bridge launches, it'll be Core i7 branded with its own model number. The "value" perf parts will always be Core i5. The actual cheap value parts will always be i3. That's... actually kind of nice.

Intel is planning low voltage versions of these [Core i5] CPUs, but these are unlikely to be available from day one.

Arrandale is going to deliver the single largest performance improvement we've seen from a new mobile processor in years.

18W Nehalems are happening now. The Core i7 models almost double in frequency from marked speed to max turbo speed.
