Yeah, it's my fault in opening in new window and forgetting about it, but I'm pretty sure I got a weird look from my (female) supervisor when I accidentally got to the window with the above link...

A NSFW tag would be appreciated ^_^;

http://seattlepi.nwsource.com/business/ ... t%20Patent
patent - No. 5,838,906 - affects how Internet sites build into Web pages small interactive programs that power everything from banner ads to interactive customer service. Eolas Technologies Inc., which was founded by one of the inventors and has licensed the patent exclusively, has begun enforcing its claims and recently won a $520 million jury award against Microsoft Corp., which quickly appealed the judgment.

Eolas said Microsoft's Internet Explorer Web browser software - used by the vast majority of Internet users - violated its patent. Microsoft has pledged to redesign its browser early in 2004 in ways that will require Web surfers to click on a dialogue box when they visit a site that employs one of the specialized programs.
ugh, if IE wasn't sucky enough as it is, it may get worse.

Remember that creepy feeling you get, like someone is watching you? They are.

As I click on this, there's a guy with an active wireless card in Skibo Gym. That's just funny.

Kasparov vs. X3D Fritz.

The new "Man vs Machine" match. X3D Fritz apparently beat Deep Blue earlier as well as several other GM's.

Anyway game 1 was a draw, Kasparov had an advantage but couldn't convert it. In game 2 Kasparov was running out of time and needed to play 8 moves in 12 minutes and made a mistake and lost the game, and in game 3 he locked up the board to keep the computer from finding any good moves (or any kind of moves at all) and won. Pretty cool contrast of the strengths and weaknesses of human cognition and computer AI.

My letter to SMC got published in the Reader Mail section (second letter down, titled The Bad). *sniff* I'm sooo happy.

Note they mispelled my name. I'm thinking of writing a letter.

The kind of interview that makes you realize "politician" and "lawyer" aren't perjoratives.

Jon Johansen, recently acquitted for releasing DeCSS, has released an iTunes hack to strip AAC files of their copy protection. He's distributing it as uncompiled source only.

He has a website (see link in articles) but it currently appears to be overloaded.

I can't tell if its a joke or the patent office are actually allowing people to patent numbers and they are making fun of the idea.

There's a small galaxy of about a billion stars only 25,000 ly from Sol. That's closer than the center of the Milky Way.

Turn NSFW into SFW, by means of this simple proxy. Run it from your home computer while at work.

(Used to read: All traffic from it and to it is massaged to bypass filters, letting you look at whatever you want while at work. This is, in fact, not true. All this lets you do is bypass url- or port-based filter.)

I think Jonathan should make a gigapixel picture of something from his next vacation.
