ASUS has a new line of motherboards that can boot Linux off embedded flash (takes about 5 seconds from power-on). You can choose to continue booting off a hard drive, or use the embedded desktop environment. The current desktop has Skype and Firefox while also supporting the built-ins on the motherboard.
