NYC: now with maple-syrup fresh scent! I think massive civil scent engineering is an overdue idea. Fix that B.O. smell on public transit for starters.

Expensive, but nifty. I would buy a barebones one of these.

Revenge of the Broadcast Flag: the MPAA has presented a draft to of a bill Congress that would not only prevent unauthorized copying but also time-shifting and high-quality analog signals.

Oracle Express

You know, I always wondered why people use MySQL rather than Postgre or Firebird. MySQL just doesn't seem very ... Enterprise ready.

It takes 43 muscles to frown and 17 to smile, but it doesn't take any to just sit there with a dumb look on your face.

SFGate.com: Debate rages on use of c3rv1c4l cancer vaccine
While almost 100% effective, some contend use condones teen $3><
( Link )

Edited 2 words above for those that care at work.

Is it just me, or are the (ultra?) conservatives here crazy?

Abstractly speaking, we can prevent <illness> with <vaccine> but think it will increase cases of <illness>. Even if cases increased, the <vaccine> would stop the <illness>.

Also, there are plenty of OTHER illnesses that could spread this way, yet people think a vaccine would encourage spreading?

Random Thought: Just because someone has a bulletproof vest doesn't mean they'll want to get shot, does it?

Would it be a problem for anyone if Vinny typed s e x instead of $3><? Cause I'm damned if I knew what that was at first glance.

There's a company called Guba that is converting all the stuff on Usenet to H.264 and letting people search it.

Amusing interaction of giant corporate behemoths slipping stuff onto your PC. After reading the forum link, I don't think this workaround is the be-all, end-all for WoW hacking, but it's still fairly nifty.

I think even weirder than the revelation in the article is the revelation that Dell sells stand-alone processors. WTF?

In 2000, about 1 million people worldwide killed themselves—about equal to the number of deaths that year from war and homicide combined.
Holy crap!

http://www.hlcomic.com/view.php?date=2005-11-02

I've been holding off posting "Concerned: the half-life and death of gordon frohman" until it got funny. I judge this comic to post-worthy, almost entirely on the strength of the punchline.

It is a comic about HL2. It's not exactly machinima, because it ain't animated. It's not a sprite comic, either, because it uses the in-game camera. I don't know what to call it. The past couple of weeks have been pretty amusing. The first chapter or two kinda sucked, though.
