Industry is so clear because a couple of key planets have exchanged hands and industry is not destroyed during the transition like economy is. Research is too scattered and too low of numbers to really show the picture well at the moment, but still somewhat visible. Too bad there's no metric keeping track of average star quality. That would be a good predictor as well.

It's probably less of a problem than you might think. Or at least, you want me to think it's a bigger problem for you than it really is.

It may not look like much has been happening, but there's been some tactical wrangling allowing me to reach production parity with dvb and the Colonel combined while not really ceding any space. I'm also pretty close to parity in research and at a slighter disadvantage in economy than I was at. Taking into account any research trading fees they pay and other drags like having to rebuild stargates and such, I'm probably nearly at parity.
Winner will be the first to capture 70 of 138 stars.
10 more stars to go!

Well, looks like I have messed up a ship order and will have to wait 2 turns to get my ships back :-\ I guess this means I lose the Colonel's homeworld and potentially more for a while too. Also behind on weapons for some unspecified amount of time...

Inquiring minds want to know: Did Inquist break your fighting spirit, Peijen?

To sum up:

There was early confusion since I swore to everyone I knew exactly where they were in the universe, but I didn't. I sent a bunch of ships in a direction based on that misconception, and discovered that thespineer had a really poorly defended border. I would have initiated hostilities immediately, but all my ships were on the other side. Instead, I fought Inquist to a standstill while he convinced thespineer to invade me. I had this plan that I was going to fade back and send ships around to cut off his advance, but he successfully defended against every feint I made and I lost a ton of stars I never properly recovered. I also made the mistake of not having early tech to trade for establishing friendly relations.

Joe took the fight to Inquist pretty early and Inquist was very dismayed by Peijen's complete lack of will to punish Joe for concentrating his forces. Inquist issued an ultimatum that he'd hand over all his stars to Joe unless someone (only Peijen was positioned correctly) started hurting Joe. Peijen took advantage of thespineer's overcommitting to invading my stars to take thespineer's homeworld. I was able to convince Inquist to start a tech bloc then, and stop attacking me.

With Peijen and Joe in a clear lead over everyone else, Inquist followed through on his threat when the deadline passed and gave up his homeworld and the rest of his empire to Joe. He threw me a couple bones which kept me tech trading with him longer than I should have, probably. Inquist marched to his death on Peijen and kept him from capitalizing on his gains in thespineer's space until Joe could get into a comfortable lead.

Losing his homeworld broke thespineer's interest in fighting. He never did concede, which was a huge drag on the game in the middle of the action until the AI took over for inactivity.

Peijen sent me some tech gratis to gamble on trying to seize Inquist's homeworld. That gambit failed and Joe was able to seize my homeworld with some help from my inattentive routing. Still, respect must be paid to a very clever ploy on Joe's part there. Joe messed up some orders and I got back my homeworld, but the momentum was always clearly Joe's even after I recovered. We traded tech to keep Joe at bay for longer than was expected, I reckon.

Peijen I don't think ever initiated an invasion on Joe.

Any gaps to fill in?
