Well, after getting shut out of the sixth alliance tournament, my alliance is competing in this one. We lost the first round. The official writeup and video have the details. Our next fight is butt-ass early Sunday morning against NOIR Mercenary Group.
The top 32 of the 64 teams competing get to go to the finals, which is a single elimination format, so it's critical to win the fight against NOIR decisively. We killed a command ship in our first round, which could be enough points combined with a strong second round win to get us into the final. Sixteen teams are guaranteed 2 wins according to the format, so we need more points than at least half of the 32 teams with 1 win and 1 loss. Assuming we win, there will be seven 1-1 teams with a guaranteed higher number of points (discounting the possiblity of stalemate, which happened in 1 fight so far), 8 with guaranteed fewer, and 16 with no way of knowing. If the 16 get blown of the out water with no points scored, we're in easy. If the 16 lose with a number of points scored equivalent to the spread on the losers in the first round, then we're likely to get the very last seed in the finals.
