Edwards: You're distorting the facts. Kerry is consistent.
Cheney: You're distoryting the facts. Kerry is not consistent

Edwards: Haliburton does business with bad guys
Cheney: Facts are wrong. Check factcheck.com

Question about poverty and making jobs:
Cheney: Increase education with No Child Left Behind Act
Edwards: You didn't talk about jobs or poverty.
Cheney: We won't leave children behind and we passed the prescription drug benefit plan.
Edwards: Jobs? Poverty?

Economy
Edwards: We will balance the budget and cut the defecit in half
Cheney: He will raise taxes. They voted 98 times to raise taxes. They want to tax the top tax bracket. You shouldn't tax people who run small businesses since that's who provide most of the jobs. (not sure how those last two statements go together)
Edwards: Kerry voted for tax cuts over 600 times
Cheney: says virtually nothing

Same sex unions:
Cheney: People should have any unions they want. States aren't regulating unions well enough by themselves...
<I missed this since I got interrupted>

Tort Reform:
Cheney: We need to fix this. We want to limit the awards to lawyers
Edwards: We need to fix this. Put more responsibility on the lawyers. We can't limit the rights of people to sue though.

Do you [Edwards] personally feel attacked when they call you a trial lawyer?
Edwards: <insert sappy story> Medicare premiums up 17% on their watch. They have not done anything.
Cheney: <insert sappy story> We must stop frivalous lawsuits. Edwards used loopholes to avoid medicare taxes.
Edwards: Haliburton used every loophole possible to avoid taxes you hipocrit
Cheney: We're trying to reduce healthcare costs with the prescription drug benefit

How can the gov't help stop the AIDS epidemic?
Cheney: This is deeply troubling. Bush put up $15 billion to help stop AIDS and educate people internationally.
Edwards: That $15 billion needs to be doubled. We need to do much more here. 5 million people don't have health care here. We need to fix this.

Cheney wasn't as aggressive on Edwards's record as a trial lawyer as he could have been. But he didn't need to; he's making Edwards look like a little kid. At one point in the debate he lectured Edwards about his Senate attendance.

Bottom line: Edwards is getting killed out there. Cheney looks smarter, calmer, more knowledgeable, and better prepared. Edwards seems kind of confused and unclear in his responses. The sooner this debate ends the better.

On a positive note, Edwards is supporting the 3 strikes and you're out for trial lawyers who file frivolous lawsuits as well as financial disincentives for doing the same.

Cheney is a wicked, wicked man. But he's an intelligent, cunning, and knowledgeable wicked man.

Edwards' political experience is the least of any candidate in the last 20 years. What right do you [Edwards] have to serve?
Edwards: I have worked a lot internationally and have learned what is there and seen what's need to be done. A long resume is not necessary. Here's what I want to do: increase the military to hunt terrorists, increase health care at home for troops families.
Cheney: Being vice-president has a lot of responsibility. The vice president must be someone who could take over at a moment's notice.
Edwards: Edwards would be a great leader
Cheney: Bush would be a better leader and has already shown that.

Cheney has the same dismissive attitude toward Edwards that Bush had toward Kerry.

The difference is, Cheney makes it seem acceptable to be dismissive toward Edwards. Whereas when Bush did it to Kerry he seemed childish, when Cheney does it to Edwards he seems like an adult ignoring a child.

agreed. Cheney's smart enough not to say too much and by not using all his time sometimes, it almost makes his argument stronger because he doesn't dignify Edwards with a response.

What's wrong with flipflopping?
Edwards: Kerry is not flipflopping. He is consistent. Bush didn't have a plan for the war like he said he did, so he had to stop supporting the war. Bush is a flipflopper. He didn't hold to many campaign promises. listed a bunch of issues including the no child left behind being way underfunded.
Cheney: Kerry voted for the war, then said wrong war.

Edwards talked about the Bush administration's flip-flops, but it sounded like he was making it up as he went along. Not delivered well and didn't seem well supported.

Even though he was ultimately correct that he already took his turn he still looked pretty bad that that moment...

He doesn't sound like he did too bad. Of course, there's probably a bunch I missed since I'm only streaming this and not seeing the video.
