Here's a rough draft of some of the things I'll be buying.
(about time I took advantage of Newegg's wish list capability)

Some notes:
  • One system is for my brother, the other is for me.
  • Still debating on going with the low latency memory, or attempting to overclock the value (in which case I'd get two value packs)
  • The router will be used for non-wireless networking for now, and comes with an additional $20 rebate!
  • The handsfree headset is to make up for the one I lost (oops)
  • I'm tempted to get the either the Logitech Cordless MX Duo or the Logitech Cordless Comfort Duo as well.

You will want to get the MX Duo. I had both (spilled on one, free replace and upgrade with best buy replacement plan), and I have to say the MX Duo works better and is less likely to have it's singal blocked. The recieve doesn't get pushed around because it's heavier, and it recharges the battery (included)

Hahaha... no.

Look at my list's price tag, then realize it's for two computers.

Look at the cost of an opteron. Compare and contrast 8)

Interesting. May I ask how this fits in with your Sonata box and HTPC?

This new box will serve as my vacation box (portable, expandable, and cheaper than a laptop) and as the real HTPC (ie. by my tv instead of in my bedroom connected via a 12' svideo cable). Currently the Sonata is both my main PC and an HTPC in one.

However, it's also possible to use the SFF as my main box, provided it's quieter than the Sonata (which is not really quiet because of the four hard drives). There's also the additional complication of the 12' svideo cable to my bedroom again, but that can be solved by purchasing another video card with svideo out.

Here's a summary of my future computer status:
  • (1) Sonata, currently my main box
  • (1) Server (used for burning, ftp, etc)
  • (1) SFF, likely to be my real HTPC and portable.
The other nice thing about the SFF, is that I will finally be able to hook up all my drives simultaneously! Hurrah!

Oh another tidbit, I did have three computers, but somehow the motherboard was fried (determined via process of elimination). For what it's worth, George (aka, person who should read this bboard) is currently using my Athlon 1700+ XP in one of his computers.

Oh, you'll want to go to buy.com if you want to get the cordless elite duo. I won't pretend to understand the difference between all the models of the "cordless * duo *'s" though. It's currently on sale. Here's the link:

This is the exact same router you linked to and it's also cheaper on buy.com

I only know all this since I was looking at their 24-hour sale:

Maybe so, but buy.com sucks. Their reseller rating is for shit.

Thanks for the info, but if I'm going cordless, I'll pay the extra money for the MX or comfort over the elite.

As for the router, I'll look into it, since buying all from one retailer may very well be cheaper than the additional shipping cost from buy.com.

Uh, the router qualified for free shipping.
