Looks pretty cool...it does seem similar to how I pictured things when I read it.

Didn't really see Sean Bean as Ned Stark though.

I've been rereading the series in preparation for this. I remembered all the plot, but there's a lot of details that I am rediscovering. All the characters of King Robert's generation are under 40 at the time of the novels, including Ned. Sean Bean is a little old, then. Also, I'm a lot more sympathetic to Jaime even prior to his becoming a POV character. I think Cersei was his problem, period. Finally, GRRM's prose is starting to wear thin. If I seen another "a man grown" I will punch someone.

And now I'm reading articles about how I missed the gay love affair. Well, shit.

Yeah I caught on to the gayness the second time I read through it.

SPOILERS

Who caught the first episode? Catriona was struck by how there wasn't any male nudity. HBO as a network has not shied away from naked men, so I don't know what gives there. I guess savvy producers don't put Peter Dinklage full frontal into the first episode, but Jaime or Drogo could definitely have been nakeder without it seeming odd.

Catelyn seems really too old to have a ten-year-old, though the right age to be married to Sean Bean.

I think Robb looks like Peter Dinklage. Am I right or am I right?

Is Rickon a character or did they write him out? I don't remember him...

Viserys I thought was unlikable enough, but not particularly a good portrayal. Like, I imagined Viserys always as a spoiled rich kid, so matter how poor or old he was. Here he just seems mean.

This really needed a two hour pilot. Nothing happened except to Bran, and that only at the end.

I agree it should've been a two hour pilot. I thought the first episode was pretty dull and too scattered, but the second ep was significantly more interesting. Haven't seen the third ep yet.

Third ep was definitely the best so far, I thought. Though it seems like they're changing the reasons some characters have for doing things. So far all the action is the same as the book, though the dialogue can differ?

Maggie's (my girlfriend) reaction to Ned Stark's beheading.

"What??? Did he just die? What?? He's dead? Does he come back in flashbacks? Sean Bean's really out of the show now?"

The reaction I've seen so far has been pretty amusing.

A lot of spoilers in this Amazon.com review, but it pretty much summed up what I thought of it:

Basically, this book seemed to just be setting things up for the next book. In other words, GRRM's transformation into RJ is underway. Compared to the first four books it was pretty underwhelming and ordinary. The characters all seemed more two-dimensional than in prior books (ignoring advice, feeling unappreciated, and making stupid decisions? yep, that's pretty much every character now apparently). Still a page-turner though.
