got my free i7 940

Post by Jonathan »

Now I gotta buy a motherboard!

I may buy 1333 just so I can run stream over and over again.

Intel employee price on an Intel X58 is $212... I wonder if that's the best I'm going to do.

Getting a MSI X58 Pro for $190 + $20 rebate, and Vinny's HSF, and 3x2GB of cheap 1066.

Nope. But the i5s (or whatever they will call them) will be just as good. Mostly.

Are there going to be any price drops on i7 920 or 940 soon?

Your crystal ball is as good as mine. Mine says no.

But Lynnfield will be cheaper. I really can't stress this point enough. Imagine that the extreme edition encompassed, say, three different processors. Cuz that's what the Core i7 line is.

There's new i7s out (975 and 950). They are faster than the old i7s but the same price, and the old ones are no longer manufactured. The 920 gets no update.

So what is a decent performance/price CPU / MB that you'd recommend buying in the next month or so?
