Re: drinks for men of taste and distinction
I find Elmer T. Lee is exactly what I want from a bourbon.

Re: drinks for men of taste and distinction
I should note I meant Elmer T. Lee is good neat, of course. It has been several months since I last had a Manhattan. The older I get, the less interested in cocktails I am. I drink beer with dinner. I drink whisky or port after dinner.
I will get a cocktail sometimes during happy hour, or if I am at a dive, but I barely mix drinks at home any more.

Apparently, now that Mr. Lee died, there's no more Elmer T. Lee bourbon?

It's 2017 and everything I knew is wrong again.Jonathan wrote:I find essentially everything I have posted in this thread to date to be absurd.
I'm basically that IPA guy now. My friends know they'd better have some IPAs in the fridge or a good excuse why their beer selection is poor. I'm mostly drinking Ninkasi or Double Mountain at home, but for draft beer my default is Boneyard because very few bars carry Ninkasi or Double Mountain. I expect none of these are nationally distributed?
As a first order approximation, the only whisky I buy consistently is McCarthy's Single Malt (an Oregon barrel aged whisky). I do like The Balvenie (my wedding whisky) quite a bit, but most Scotch is just too expensive.
I still get an old-fashioned when I get a cocktail, but usually a whiskey old-fashioned instead of brandy. I prefer Basil Hayden for mixed drinks, or Knob Creek.
Re: drinks for men of taste and distinction
I think I've seen Ninkasi around here but I've never tried it.
I'll have an IPA now and then but it's not my favorite. I usually like something with a little bit more crispness, tartness, or fruit notes, like an orange wit, saison, or red ale. I do also like nut brown ales.

I never tried Ninkasi until a few years ago, because the brand name is stupid. I find they do repeatably solid work.
