Answers to the question "What do you believe is true even though you cannot prove it?" Daved Gelernter, Ray Kurzweil, Sam Harris, and Freeman Dyson have the most interesting responses, I think. I don't agree with what Dyson says, though. His statement is (probably) not formally nonprovable, which i...

American Mathematical Society. Paid for the Grad School in fact. Paid for by the grad school? I'm not a member of the Association of Computing Machinery. It's definitely a purely academic organization. I have been to an ACM conference though, but for students there was no discount for members.

Neither http://www.j.p.n nor j.p.n work for me at home or at school. One of them used to work - it was the one that Mohtlim had hardcoded when you clicked the login button.

Ah, session ID, how I love thee. Regarding the Aphex Twin video, I can vouch that Bob showed it to me personally several years ago. It may still be on Khak's hard drive. Here's a link which I enjoy checking out once in a while. There are no photographs, but it still may not be safe for work. The sto...

My belief is that we're going after Iran because of focus groups. "Iran" sounds like "Iraq". Also, people seem to remember the phrase "Iran-Iraq" for some reason. They're basically the same country. If one of them is harboring terrorists, certainly the other one is.

Cabinet changes

Are all the rage these days in the news. Condi replaces Colin. Apparently she was a Stanford professor at the age of 26, but she still flashes this weird subservient smile every time she looks at Bush. I think it's been parodied on SNL to great effect. How smart is she, really? Did she get where she...

Actually I get the opposite problem with intermittent "www.jonathan.pearce.name could not be found" errors. If I start off by going to the ~dwindle address it works fine.

Hmm, I fail to see how even as a "little l" you would disagree with that stance. What beliefs do you have? Government shouldn't be that big? What is something that is clearly not something that the government should do that it is doing? On the other hand, as someone who is not a libertarian, I do no...

Sree is again a source of controversy. Originally, he was thrown out of Building D for "various reasons". This time, if you read the above link, apparently he was legally required to have flood insurance which should have been available to him. I don't see why I should reward him for his own neglige...

I should find something I can customize hell out of it and call it a hobby. Something other than computer(no money), car(i think it's stupid), or gun(taken). I think you should take up writing. Begin by studying How to Good-Bye Depression . (edit: f*in' auto close-tags after I already closed it...)

How to fold a shirt (Japanese video w/ accompanying English thread). I was able to get this to work, but only after closely reading Cali's description. The video serves primarily to mystify.

Speaking of shitty abandonware released as partially completed source, Golgotha is an interesting example. (See the interview with the project lead here.) It was released six years ago and has still not been developed into an actual product (stale sourceforge site here).
