It won't let me sell any of my hats or weapons. All I can sell are those stupid crates.
But maybe I could buy five one-cent crates and flip them for two cents apiece, doubling my money. I only have to do that 15 times to break even. Thirty times, and I can retire comfortably.

Steam Market
Steam now has an auction house. I made $0.05 selling a Team Fortress crate. So, I finally join Dave among the ranks of semi-professional game players. And, if I sell just 4743 more, my Steam account will have paid for itself...

Re: MOMA's video game list
The Smithsonian's American Art Museum had a video game exhibit this summer. It was pretty well done, though they underutilized the space available. The funny part there was the contrast between the people in charge of the exhibit and the regular museum workers. The former were clearly enthusiastic a...

Goodbye, avatar
I just noticed that my awesome avatar image has disappeared. I think it was stored on my old ISP's personal web hosting section, so maybe they finally noticed that I last paid a bill in Jan, 2007. I got a lot of use out of that image. As I recall, it took about three minutes of Googling and MS Paint...

Re: 2012 Computer Notes (advice welcome!)
Looks like none of my computers will get replaced this year. But, I did just replace my desktop's six-year-old main hard drive with an SSD. I'm living on the bleeding edge. Same Samsung model Vinny bought a couple pages ago, but they were clearing them out to make room for the shiny new 840 line, so...

Re: Black Friday!
I've been surprised by some of their in-stock discounted titles on past Black Fridays. Some years they don't have anything worthwhile, other years, I'll find half a dozen things below the price I'd be willing to pay. Ditto Target and Walmart, but I don't have a Walmart near enough to be worth checki...

Looks like BestBuy will have some cheap DVDs, so I'll probably stop in at some reasonable time.

Re: 2012 Computer Notes (advice welcome!)
Just apply your awesome Diablo 3 auction house skills to flip the computer at a profit and buy a better one. Or fight some elite engineers and hope for a lucky random drop.

Re: OS features that need to be in every OS
Windows Vista, XP, and I'm pretty sure 2000 all had the quicklaunch bar. The new taskbar is just a merger of that and the traditional taskbar, with a better UI to configure it. Took me a while to get used to it, but I really like it now. It also gives you built-in keyboard shortcuts, so Win+1 launch...

Re: The Official Diablo 3 Thread
I think its still installed on my laptop, though I removed it from my desktop. I can't imagine ever wanting to play again. I can tolerate and even enjoy grinding when there are at least occasional rewards. But I never found a single piece of half-decent gear through random drops in D3. Maybe if I ha...

Re: anybody on the East Coast still alive?
My lights flickered a few times on Monday, but the power never failed long enough to shut off my computer. No obvious signs of flooding here, and no downed trees or even branches. A couple of traffic lights were out on the way to work, and one grocery store was closed, but that's about it.
Re: webcomic
That guy should get a kickstarter or something. Might be counterproductive. Order of the Stick updated roughly twice a week until its Kickstarter. After that, the update rate dropped below twice a month, and that was before the artist hurt his hand. Actually, it bears a disturbing similarity to the...

Re: Borderlands 2
I'm liking it. It's more of the same, but if it wasn't broken, why fix it? Aside from new content (creatures, gun parts, and skills), the only changes are minor things like optional quest objectives, a different way of upgrading capacity, and a completely useless "bank". Oh, and spike shields, which...

Re: Dungeons & Dragons Next
My previous group had two women regularly, and a third once. They were all wives of other players, so I'm not sure if you'd count them. The group before that had two, both occasional. One was (eventually) married to the DM, but the other was just a friend.

Re: Dungeons & Dragons Next
Bottom of heroic tier. I'm not sure we even made it to level 4. Everyone was having fun, but many of them hadn't played 3e, and some had never played any tabletop RPG. My prep time as DM was through the roof, because of/in spite of the streamlining they did to the monster manual and encounter planni...

Re: Dungeons & Dragons Next
Also, I don't know the author's deal, but we generally start and conclude a 4e encounter within an hour. My 4e experience was exactly like the author's. We were lucky to finish two encounters in a night. The powers felt homogenized rather than consistent. And nothing was named in a way that let you...

Re: Windows 8
My desktop's only 1.5 years old and my laptop is not even one, so neither one's ready for a refresh. I've hated everything I've read or heard about Metro, at least in the context of desktop and laptop systems. When Windows 7 came out, I found I loved the ability to reorder the taskbar, and kind of l...

Re: Joss Whedon is a genius
Almost entirely awesome interspersed with occasional intervals of acceptable. I'd put it on par with Iron Man, Thor and the last thirty seconds of X-Men 2, way above any of the Batman movies. Joe, make sure you stay for the post-credits scene. I can't say any more without spoiling it, but I think ev...
