The Craigslist MetaEngine You Desire
CribQ started serving the DC area. I prodded Alex Nesh about a month ago and he finally came through. Check this shit out.

Re: 4WD means that they can defy the laws of physics
Wow. This is so painful to watch. I can't believe how stupid some of those drivers are. Especially the first guy. I guess he was trying to make a getaway or something?

Re: New Fashion Imperative: Corduroy Jacket
I cleaned house at JCrew yesterday. Got that corduroy jacket with patches for only $40. The salesman was compounding my discounts, giving me nearly 65% off even on sale items. This is an even better time to be shopping that Spring 2003.
This recession economy is making some awesome deals.

New Fashion Imperative: Corduroy Jacket
(by jacket I mean "sports jacket" or "blazer" not outerwear) The cord jacket is awesome. It's got a modest academic charm without being too polished, which is good for us rugged Westerners and other people unaccustomed to the accoutrements of wealth. It also has Indiana Jones appeal. It can be used ...

Re: Physics of silicene
I wonder if the authors bickered over the choice of cornucopia. Seems to me that "bounty" would be more appropriate but maybe the lead author pulled rank.If existing, [silicene] would also reveal a cornucopia of new physics and potential applications.

State of Email Encryption
I believe in email encryption. But I also believe it should be fully integrated and automatic. I should never have to encrypt or decrypt anything or have to fetch anybody's key. I want encryption to just work. Does anybody use encryption ever? How close are we? Is there any chance we can get this wo...
Re: Ubuntu
My impression was that it didn't install the NVidia drivers automatically because the NVidia drivers are non-free. Ubuntu did recommend that they be installed, but it did not actually install them.
Re: Ubuntu
I managed to boost responsiveness quite a bit by installing the NVidia drivers. I'm going to prowl around to find other fixes.
Re: Ubuntu
Got around to installing Ubuntu yesterday. I needed net access to get my wireless working which was annoying. Otherwise it's so far so good. A bit more sluggish than I'd prefer, but ok. I'm going to ditch Evolution and stick to Thunderbird. I'm open to all Ubuntu recommendations.

CPU Drivers
What's up with "drivers" for the CPU and chipset? Intel offers them, but why would I ever want to install them?

Re: It's feeling a little
Not to be a huge ignoramus, but wasn't the Nehalem supposed to be all about the Mobile computing? I thought the point was slightly better performance with significantly fewer transistors to get seriously boosted performance per watt.

All of these reviews are for the desktop/server variants of Nehalem. Do you have any recommended reviews for the mobile Nehalem architecture?

LifeHack Against Web BS
Typical Problem: I sit down at the computer to do something useful, but I get sucked into doing the same old bullshit. I find the Blocksite addon for Firefox works well for my work computer, but for home I'd like to have a bit more functionality. I want to be able to access my stupid bullshit at hom...

PGH McCain Volunteer Alleges Attack
Ashley Todd says she was mugged in Bloomfield and then the attacker flew into a fit of rage upon seeing a McCain bumper sticker on her car. She claims the assailant then struck her down and carved a B into her face. This girl's story seems like a hoax. The narrative is too convenient. Comparing the...

Re: Travian
I started travian was because I thought it was going to be a team game with Schlag 2B. For the last several months I've been playing on inertia. Slowly, I've built up, raided villages, joined a strong alliance, etc. Now I have a 12 cropper, 300 troops, and am catapult ready. The alliance "The Dark T...
