Re: Wasteland 2

Over a hundred people were willing to pay $1000 each to have an NPC named after them. A few minutes with a hex editor and I could have sold them the same thing.

Voice actors

I was watching Clone Wars and thinking, "hey, that pirate sounds like the pirate from Talespin", so I checked IMDB. Sure enough, same actor. But what I didn't expect was that he also voiced Darkwing Duck. So, I followed a few more links and found some other unexpected matches. Rebecca Cunningham = C...

Re: Discs vs. Downloads

I suspect they must be including TV series DVDs to get that number. Any given Target or Best Buy will have two dozen movies available at $5, but that's only a tiny fraction of their stock, and generally only the really unpopular stuff. I might believe $7-8 average for single disc movies. But start f...

Atypical game ending

I just beat a game with three possible endings. In the "best" two endings, the hero dies and is immediately sent to Hell. In the "bad" ending, he commits suicide in such a way that he simply ceases to exist, so he doesn't go to Hell. Thirty-something hours invested, just to choose the manner of his ...

Re: Jagged Alliance Back in Action!

Yuck, the pause-and-go combat system is really annoying. Just like UFO: Afterlight. Another awesome turn-based combat series ruined.

Re: Jagged Alliance Back in Action!

I never managed to beat the original. In the last few squares, the enemies kept head-shotting my mercs from outside my vision range with freaking rocket rifles.

All the wannabe clones since have been pretty bad. Like Jagged Union. So, yeah, maybe when this one hits $5.

Re: Party games

Inspired by Joe's last suggestion: http://xkcd.com/696/ Others have beaten me to all the games I would have recommended (Fluxx, Race for the Galaxy, and Settlers). I can recommend against Advanced Civilization. It's somewhat fun, but probably not what you're looking for. The only times I played, we ...

Re: POS Acer Laptop Overheating

While a new widget is always the best solution to every problem, you'll still have to be careful. There are a number of laptops out there that will overheat off-the-shelf. When I was shopping around for my current system, I ended up avoiding the HP Envy line in spite of years of HP loyalty due to re...

Re: humble indie bundles

I bought Jamestown as part of the regular holiday sale, but I found I don't really like it that much. The difficulty is too high for me, which is apparently an unadvertised "feature". Fortunately, it was cheap.

Re: Dungeon Defenders

I googled "dungeon defenders" to see if Vinny is right. To my amazement, this thread is indeed the last item on the first page. But, what in this thread would make Google rank us this highly? Then I noticed something under our listing at Google. "Jonathan Pearce shared this" They're using our Google...

Most of the games we've been playing only allow four players, so we needed at least one of you or Vinny to move away.

Re: MechWarrior Online

Urban Combat to address circle strafing... But without that, what do you have left? In MW2, I played every level the same way. Turn the torso all the way to the side, and run in circles around the nearest enemy, firing whenever they were in the reticle. And since I was doing this at about 20 meters...

Re: Neverwinter 2011

Damn, if only I had friends who liked to play co-op RPGs. Oh well.

Hmm, to kill time until release, we should play through all the other co-op Infinity and Aurora engine games. BG, BG2, IWD, IWD2, NWN, NWN2.

But, we are competing to some extent. Oh, we share mana, because without a good mix of towers, we lose. Nonetheless, I kill as many mobs as I can to deny them to Jason's towers.

Re: Flowchart for NPR Top 100 SciFi/Fantasy Books

Odd that there's nothing on there by Flint, Weber, Duncan, Drake, Ringo, or Stirling. If Flint were in and Heinlein out, I might say its because of NPR's audience's political leanings. Actually, nothing by Turtledove, Weis, Hickman, or Stackpole either, and they're mostly apolitical. Maybe because t...

Using a pair of warp points, I could get to 8-1 consistently. But on 8-3 there was a double jump I just couldn't pull off. I probably tried fifty times. I saw 8-4 beaten by other people, but never got there myself.

Grandia II. We finished that game within a few hours of each other.

I'd also suggest that you experienced all that Championship Manager had to offer.

Re: Length of Games

Well, it makes me feel less bad about not finishing more games. However, I have found that for many games that I've beaten, it took discipline that doesn't belong in entertainment. So maybe something needs to change. But not length, because they're sure not going to cut price to compensate. This yea...

Re: iPhone 2009

Yea, I'd like to see more games using unreal engine. Infinity Blade is pretty fun. I'm still hoping for a WoW app! If only we could get an emulator for say SNES or even playstation.. That would rule. Windows Mobile 5 and 6 had a functional playstation emulator. FFT was reasonably playable on my cra...
