Re: Performance Matters

I like that talk. Profiling data is annoying to wade through and annoying to deal with run-to-run differences. I've looked at the flame graphs to try to speed up some scripts in the past, but they stop helping so much in parallel environments or where you have to deal with latency as he points out. ...

Re: Bicycles

The Chorus crankset is 172.5 mm, as are the Centaur and my 105 cranks. Maggie's used to a 165 mm so mine may be a bit too long for her. But she can probably try it out. Does the increase in length mean she lowers her seat a few inches to compensate and when tilting the bike the pedals will hit the ...

VPN Hacks (really VPN stupidity)

Hackers are actively trying to steal passwords from two widely used VPNs How can places that sell security products seriously have flaws like this in their products? If someone isn't authenticated yet, why would you ever send them whatever file they ask for? If you're an IT consulting company and y...

Also picked up my first set of carbon aero wheels, the Prime BlackEdition 50s . Inexpensive compared to other carbon wheels but even on sale the pair still cost $800. For the mid-to-long term, heavy loads will take a toll on the spokes, leading to premature breakage. That's a really nice way of say...

I just took off Erik's training wheels. Too bad the tube I repaired the flat in, got another flat when he was taking his first longer ride down the street. Probably a spoke or something broke free and is piercing the tube :-\ It's the rear wheel, so taking the wheel off is more of a pain. yay Still...

I was reading about what's fueling the stock market and keeping it from crashing. One interesting suggestion was the buybacks by the largest companies, which has been suggested for a few years now, but tacked on this time was the fact that the overall size of the stock markets is starting to contrac...

Everyone knows you dip the pacifier in Scotch ( but not the good stuff babies are too young to appreciate single malt).

Yea, I'm still using my PC from 2012. 7 years, still going strong! Video card seems to sputter sometimes on non-intensive apps like streaming. I'm still running my computer I build around when Erik was born at the beginning of 2011. I updated the video card once to a 960 and put in a bigger SSD, bu...
